The international footwear exhibition
This year I have been to the 85th edition of MICAM.
From 11 to 14 February at Fiera Milano (Rho), 1,364 companies have created this international event.
Authenticity, passion and tradition: the art of footwear embodies a heritage to be preserved, a culture of which Italy is one of the greatest interpreters.
In my opinion, Micam was a lively and vital exhibition that represents the highest expression of creativity and quality of a leading sector and only in Italy employs over 77 thousand direct employees in almost 5 thousand companies.
A trendy international showcase, in a unique format, with its 1,366 exhibitors, of which 603 foreigners and 761 Italians.
This year there were new entries such as Docksteps, Donna Karan, Fragiacomo, Frau, Lelli Kelly, Paciotti and Zecchino D’Oro.
“MICAM is an unmissable event for those looking for a unique international showcase for quality and style”, Annarita Pilotti, president of Assocalzaturifici, said.
Here the companies, meet buyers from all over the world.
In Hall 1, in Fashion Square, there was a corner dedicated to the fight against counterfeiting.
Among the appointments scheduled during the inaugural evening there will be the talk show hosted by Jo Squillo in Hall 1, where the “MICAM Award” was given to the best foreign buyer and to five Italian historical shoe factories.
And this year MICAM awarded five SHOE RETAILER CENTURY AWARD to five Italian historical buyers; the prize for the best foreign buyer was awarded to Peter and Daniel Hanig, respectively the son and nephew of Irving, founder of the “Hanig’s Footwear” chain in Chicago (USA). The award was presented by Caterina Balivo and fashion blogger Mariano Di Vaio during the talk show by Jo Squillo at Fashion Square, Hall 1.
Following the unmissable “Vanity in the spotlight” night at the Fashion Square: the special guest was Giorgio Moroder, legendary DJ and producer as well as winner of 3 Oscars for his soundtracks.
I have been very impressed by the organisation of the event. The room at the main entrance was stunning, everything was elegant and bright, with an open space for a wide view.
From Philipp Plein (its new collection will be very sexy) to Karl Lagerfeld to Ermenegildo Zegna e Ferragamo everything was impressive! Especially for me that I love Fashion and footwear in particular.
The Creativity of Sarah Balivo, Design Architect of Madame Cosette was stunning, this is, in my opinion the best among the new emerging brands.
For the FW 18-19 collection, the inspiration is a female horsewoman, a warrior and romantic woman at the same time.
The varnish and the suede are the key to understand a double use of the shoe that, in the heels or flat version, creates a duality, creating a glamorous boot with fringes and a linear and clean boot by deleting these fringes.
The Mary Jane, iconic model of the brand, is renewed. The tip is thinned, the heel widens, the whole is declined towards the new trends of the season.
The production, entirely made in Italy (Riviera del Brenta), enhances even more the lines of this essential femininity, guaranteeing quality and beauty at the same time.
